NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (September 10, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team picked up two more wins to close out the New Paltz Hawks Invitational Saturday.
With the two victories, Stevens moved to 8-1 on the season, and will face SUNY-New Paltz on Wednesday. Freshman
Casey King was named to All-Tournament team.
STEVENS 3, MOUNT SAINT MARY 0 (25-4, 25-16, 31-29)
The Ducks took the first two sets with relative ease, including the opening set. In the first frame, the Knights hit a paltry -.100, while Stevens went 11 of 14 with no errors for .786 clip. Trailing 24-20 in the third set, the Ducks stormed back, scoring 11 of the final 15 to sweep Mount Saint Mary.
Sophomore
Emily Piekarski had nine kills and two aces, while junior
Brianna Evans had nine kills and nine digs. Sophomore
Gianna Fazio recorded a career-high five digs in the three set rout.
STEVENS 3, SAGE 0 (25-11, 25-6, 25-11)
The Ducks hit over .350 in all three sets against their future Empire 8 Conference mates, including an error free .565 clip in the second set. Evans slugged.455 with six kills, while freshman
Shelby Stewart hit a blistering .714 with six kills on seven swings. King and senior
Christina Sciarra combined for 17 kills and eight service aces.
