Montclair State Snaps Field Hockey’s Win Streak

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (September 14, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team saw its three-game winning streak fall Wednesday night in a 3-1 road loss to No. 7 Montclair State.

The loss dropped Stevens to 3-2, while the win kept Montclair unbeaten this season at 6-0.

Junior Katti Thomasian recorded Stevens' goal early in the second half, while senior Nolie Prouty led the team overall with three shots. Senior goalie Emily Stukenborg made eight saves in a night in which the veteran faced 22 shots.

As a team, the Ducks registered 10 shots including six on goal while recording four corners.

Montclair delivered some early pressure before breaking through with a pair of scores during the three and four minute marks. The Redhawks added another to make it 3-0 in the 16th minute, but Stukenborg put the clamps on from there with three saves over the final 15 to hold the deficit at three going into the half.

The Redhawks started the second with some more pressure in the form of a penalty corner in the opening minutes, but Stevens de-escalated the situation before getting on the board in minute 38.

Off a rebound from sophomore Hannah Silvestri's shot, Thomasian got her stick on the ball and launched it into the back of the cage for the score. The goal was Thomasian's team-leading third of the season.

Prouty attempted to get Stevens more with shots over the next 20 minutes that were saved and blocked, before a shot from sophomore Regan Littell was saved by Montclair goalie Kaitlin Maguire with five minutes left in regulation.

Stevens would get one more scoring opportunity in the final minute off a shot from Thomasian, but the effort went wide as Montclair kept the ball in the Stevens zone for the final seconds to seal the loss.

The Ducks will be back in action Saturday when they open Empire 8 play by hosting Ithaca College.
