ITHACA, N.Y. (September 18, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team dropped its Empire 8 opener to Ithaca College on the road Sunday afternoon, 1-0.
The loss dropped Stevens to 1-3-1 (0-1-0), while Ithaca evened its record at 3-3-0 (1-0-0).
Junior
Tommy Dorsay registered a pair of shots on goal, while sophomore goalie
Aaron Henry converted five saves.
As a team, the Ducks tallied 12 shots on the day including six on goal, and led Ithaca in corners 5-2.
Each goalie tallied a save through the first 11 minutes, before Ithaca goalie Zach Jacobsen stopped senior
Jay Mikula's set-piece shot in the 33rd. Ithaca generated some more offense with a pair of shots in the final minute, but Henry made the save on the first while the second sailed wide.
Henry made another save for Stevens off a shot from Ithaca's Sam Boylan early in the second, before Jacobsen returned the favor off senior
Nick DeFelice's try in minute 62.
Both teams traded shots over the next eight minutes, followed by Ithaca's game winner in the 76th off Scott Halpern's score from the top of the box.
Stevens got off one more attempt with three minutes to go off the foot of sophomore
Andrew Masur, but the attempt went wide allowing the Bombers to take control from there to clinch the loss.
The Ducks will continue their three-match road swing Wednesday when they travel to the Merchant Marine Academy for a 5:30 p.m. start.
