Field Hockey Stays Unbeaten In E8 With Win Over Utica

UTICA, N.Y. (September 24, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team saw five different players score goals Saturday in a 6-2 Empire 8 road win over Utica.

The win moved Stevens to 5-3 (3-0), while Utica fell to 1-7 (1-3).

Senior Nolie Prouty led the Ducks offensively with two goals, while the rest of Stevens' offense stayed true to its balanced form with scores from junior Haines Duff, sophomore Regan Littell, junior Cassidy O'Hearn, and senior Taylor Welch

Senior goalie Emily Stukenborg made six saves, while freshman Darci Rota made two in six minutes of action.

Stevens nearly doubled Utica in shot attempts, 20-12, and tallied 12 corners to Utica's eight.

Utica got on the board first with a tip-in goal three minutes in, but Prouty provided the Stevens answer two minutes later with her fourth score of the season.

Stevens continued the pressure with three shots on goal over the next 20 minutes, before pulling ahead with a goal from Duff with seven minutes remaining. Off a corner, Duff took a pass from sophomore Hannah Silvestri, then fired one into the back of the cage from nine yards out.

Littell got into the scoring action one minute later off a feed from Prouty, sending the Ducks into the half up two.

O'Hearn added to the lead less than two minutes into the second from 15 yards out with a shot that went between the goalie's feet, before Welch added one to the scoring column in the 44th minute with a one-timer from junior Katti Thomasian

Utica got one back with a goal 20 minutes into the second half, but it's as close as they would get the rest of the day as Prouty's goal in the final minute off her own rebound sealed the win.

The Ducks will start a two-game homestand Wednesday against Drew at 4 p.m.
