HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 28, 2016) – Five different players scored goals for the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team in a 5-0 win over Drew Wednesday afternoon in Hoboken.
The win moved Stevens to 6-3, while Drew fell to 2-5.
Junior
Victoria Alvarez led the Ducks offensively with four points off a goal and two assists, while senior
Taylor Welch, junior
Katti Thomasian, sophomore
Hannah Silvestri, and freshman
Michaela Thompson each chipped in with a goal of their own.
Senior goalie
Emily Stukenborg made one save, combining with freshman
Darci Rota for the shutout.
As a team the Ducks dominated offensive possession with 20 shots to Drew's four, in addition to winning the corner battle 17-6.
Stevens jumped out to an early lead with Alvarez's goal 30 seconds into regulation. Senior
Nolie Prouty set up the score by sending a high looping pass in front of the cage, where Alvarez connected on the tip in to put Stevens up 1-0.
Silvestri extended the lead 18 minutes later with a rocket from the top-left side of the zone off a feed from junior
Cassidy O'Hearn, before Thomasian made it 3-0 during the 31st minute off a pass from Alvarez deep in the zone.
Welch continued the barrage a minute later with an unassisted score on a fast break, giving Stevens the comfortable lead heading into the break.
Each team went scoreless to start the second, before Thompson got into the scoring 10 minutes in off a one timer in the zone from Alvarez. It was all defense from that point forward as the Ducks limited Drew to just one more shot the rest of regulation to seal the win.
The Ducks will continue their two-game homestand Saturday when they host Nazareth at 2 p.m.
