HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 28, 2016) – Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer senior
Patrick Masur recorded three points off a goal and an assist Wednesday night in a 2-1 win over Widener.
The win moved Stevens to 4-3-1, while Widener fell to 2-6-1.
Senior
Jay Mikula chipped in with Stevens' other goal in what was his first score of the season, while freshman
Mitko Bozinov tallied the win in his first career start in net.
As a team the Ducks dominated possession all night, recording 12 shots to Widener's two, and held the sizable advantage in corners 7-3.
After going shot-less over the first 14 minutes, Stevens grabbed the one-goal lead off a penalty-shot score from Masur. The veteran was awarded the opportunity after a Widener handball in the box, giving him his second penalty-shot goal of the season.
The Ducks added to the lead two minutes later with Mikula's goal off a cross from Masur, before the defense went to work by limiting Widener to just one shot for the duration of the opening half.
Widener finally broke through off a header less than 10 minutes into the second, but Stevens responded with more pressure in the form off a set-piece opportunity from sophomore
Daniel Aversano that sailed wide.
The advantage proved to be enough for the Ducks however as the Stevens defense didn't allow a Widener shot over the final 38 minutes to clinch the victory.
The Ducks will continue their four-match homestand Saturday when they host Elmira at 4:30 p.m.
