MIT Blanks Men’s Soccer In Opener

HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 3, 2016) – The No. 13 Massachusetts Institute of Technology men's soccer team scored 10 minutes into the second half Saturday to send it to a 1-0 win over Stevens Institute of Technology.

The loss drops Stevens to 0-1-0, while MIT starts its season at 1-0-0.

Senior Jay Mikula led the Ducks offensively with five shots including one on goal, while senior Patrick Masur and junior Tommy Dorsay each sent one on net as well. Sophomore Aaron Henry converted a pair of saves in the second start of his career.

As a team, the Ducks outshot MIT 13-5.

Both teams traded shots in the opening minutes that went wide, before Stevens unleased three unanswered midway through the half. The Ducks continued the pressure with a shot from sophomore Daniel Aversano, followed by a header off a corner for MIT that was saved by Henry.

Stevens and MIT traded shots once again in the final five that failed to reach the back of the net, sending the match into the locker rooms deadlocked at zero.

The Ducks came out of the half with a header from junior Tommy Dorsay at the 54-minute mark that sailed high, allowing MIT to grab the lead in the 56th off a score from Wesley Woo.

The Engineers defense went to work from there, limiting Stevens to just two shots the rest of the way to seal the shutout loss.

The Ducks will continue their homestand Wednesday when they host The College of New Jersey at 4 p.m at the De Baun Athletic Complex.
