HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 7, 2016) – Freshman Ireland Tawney delivered the knockout blow in a field hockey shootout between Stevens Institute of Technology and Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham Wednesday, clinching a 3-2 win for the Ducks in non-conference action.

The win evened Stevens' record at 1-1, while FDU fell to 2-1. 

Senior goalie Emily Stukenborg stopped all three of FDU's shootout chances to play a key role in the Stevens win, while sophomore Regan Littell, junior Cassidy O'Hearn and Tawney each found the back of the cage for the Ducks. 

O'Hearn also added a goal in regulation, in addition to one from Littell. Stukenborg made 17 saves in goal including several down the stretch in regulation and overtime to limit the Devils to just two scores. 

Each team tallied 22 shots on goal, while Stevens recorded 21 corners to FDU's 16.

Both teams traded shots over the first 10 minutes, before FDU broke through with one in the 14th minute to grab the early lead. The Devils threatened for more in the closing minutes of the half, but lockdown goal tending from Stukenborg denied three shots over the final minute the preserve the one-goal deficit. 

Stevens returned the pressure with seven shots over the first eight minutes of the second, but none were able to find the back of the cage allowing FDU to add to lead in the 46th minute.

Littell answered back with her first score of the season off a feed from O'Hearn, before O'Hearn added one of her own two minutes later to tie the game at two. Junior Katti Thomasian found O'Hearn with a pass into the circle where the veteran beat the goalie on the right side of the cage for the goal.

Stevens' defense went to work from there as Stukenborg's save in minute 60 preserved the tie before a defensive save from freshman Michaela Thompson in the closing minutes did the same.

Stukenborg made four more saves in the first overtime, followed by three more in the second to send the game into the deciding shootout. 

The Ducks will continue their homestand this weekend with games against Houghton College and The College at Brockport.
