HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 13, 2017) – Freshman guard
Zoe Hahn came off the bench to spark an 18-5 second-quarter run as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team broke open a close game and defeated Houghton College, 87-49, in Empire 8 Conference matchup at Canavan Arena Friday.
Hahn shot 6-for-10 from the field, including 3-of-6 from behind the arc, to finish with a career-high 17 points. Junior forward
Megan Brown tallied a season-best 17 points and graduate student Kaitlyn Atel finished with 15 as the Ducks improved to 4-7 overall and 3-1 in E8 play.
As a team, Stevens shot 57% (33-for-58) from the field, including 9-of-17 (53%) from three-point range. Both numbers were season-best performances.
Madison Detwiler and Elle Reed each had nine points for the Highlanders, who dropped their second straight conference game in falling to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in the E8.
Turning Point
- Returning to the court in the second quarter, Hahn scored seven of 17 points, as Stevens used an 18-5 run to open a 20-point halftime lead.
- After the teams alternated misses, Hahn took advantage of Brooke Stoddard's offensive rebound and calmly stroked a jumper to extend the lead to nine and begin the run.
- An energized Stevens defense forced eight Houghton misses and four turnovers over the final 8:04 of the second stanza.
Inside the Numbers
- Stevens has yet to suffer a defeat to Houghton under head coach Megan Haughey.
- The 87 points were the most for women's basketball since the Ducks scored 90 points on Jan. 31, 2015 in a victory over Alfred.
- Tonight's victory established multiple season-best totals for the Ducks: field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage, assists and points.
- All 12 players scored for Stevens.
- Stevens had more assists than turnovers for the first time this season. The Ducks had 21 assists on 33 baskets.
- Houghton had more offensive rebounds (19) than defensive rebounds (16), although the Ducks held the edge in second-chance points.
- Stevens held the edge in points in the paint, bench points and points off turnovers.
- The 30-point third quarter was the most points Stevens has scored in any quarter this season.
