David Lehman each tallied 14 kills as the No. 3 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team swept Elms College (25-9, 25-23, 25-20) in a non-conference matchup at Canavan Arena Sunday.
Senior
Jordan Stuart recorded six kills and a pair of blocks and sophomore
Jacob Patterson dished out 38 assists as Stevens improved to 6-0.
Gabriel Reis-Levy had 14 kills and two aces for Elms. who fell to 3-3.
Volleys and Points
- Although Elms served to open the match, the Ducks scored the first three points of the match.
- After Elms got on the board, the Ducks ran off five consecutive points to seize control of the first set.
- Back-to-back errors by Elms closed out the first set.
- After the teams alternated points to open the second set, Elms opened its biggest lead of the match at 7-1.
- The Ducks slowly chipped away at the deficit, finally drawing even after winning consecutive points on a bad set by Elms and kills by Shankweiler, Lehman and senior Alexander Carpenter.
- Another Lehman strike gave the Ducks their first lead at 24-23 and a bad set by Elms closed the set for Stevens.
- Three straight points for the Ducks opened scoring in the final set.
- Elms was able to claim its first lead of the final set at 16-15.
- Stevens forced a tie at 17-17 before three straight Elms errors forced a Blazers timeout.
- After the timeout, the Blazers crept back into the set on a Reis Levy kill and a John Dunphy ace.
- A service error returned the serve back to Stevens with a 23-20 lead.
Match Point
- After reclaiming possession at 23-20, Stevens closed out the match on back-to-back kills by Carpenter and sophomore Joshua Hinton.
Inside the Numbers
- Stevens attacked at a 0.733 percentage in the opening set, nailing 12 kills on 15 attacks with only one error.
- Conversely, the Ducks forced Elms into five errors with five kills for a 0.000 attack percentage.
- Stevens held a 7-4 advantage in service aces. Shankweiler led the team with three.
- Sophomore Dylan DeBoer led a strong defense with five digs. Stevens recorded 19 on the afternoon.
- Stuart and DeBoer each added six kills.

- "I suspected that the second set was going to be much closer than the first and I think we did a good job of getting back into the game and closing the set out."
