HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 7, 2017) – Four players reached double figures as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team downed Elmira College, 68-53, in an Empire 8 conference matchup Saturday.
Graduate student
Kaitlyn Astel led the Ducks with 14 points off the bench and junior
Megan Brown recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. Stevens improved to 3-6 overall and 2-0 in E8 play.

Anna Toke and freshman
Zoe Hahn each added 10 points as the Ducks had four players in double figures for the first time this season.
Rachel Vespucci recorded a double-double of her own for Elmira, with game-highs of 20 points and 18 rebounds. Lindsey Heaton added 12 points for the Soaring Eagles, who fell to 3-7 and 0-2 in E8 play.
Turning Point
- After Stevens won the opening tip, a Brown layup opened the game's scoring.
- Toke extended the lead to 4-0 with a short jumper in the paint.
- Vespucci and Brown exchanged layups to make it a 6-2 game.
- Vespucci's second layup brought Elmira to within two (6-4). This would be the final points of the opening period for the Soaring Eagles.
- The Ducks would go on a 10-0 run over the final 4:40 to open a 16-4 lead at the first intermission.
- Stevens would lead wire-to-wire in winning its second straight game.
Inside the Numbers
- Stevens outrebounded their opponent (45-43) for the fourth straight game.
- The Ducks had a season-high 16 assists on 25 baskets. Senior Erica Guketlov led the team with four.
- The Ducks outrebounded their opponent for the third straight game.
- Stevens allowed 53 points for the second-straight game.
- The Ducks allowed a season-low 13 points in the first half, forcing Elmira into 5-of-39 shooting
- Astel's 14 points led to a season-best 26 points of the bench for Stevens.
- The Ducks held the edge in points in the paint and points off turnovers.
- The win was the ninth in a row for Stevens over Elmira.
Unsung Heroes
- Brown's double-double was the 17th of her career. The forward is among the national leaders in rebounding with 11.8 boards per game.
- Brown was four rebounds shy of the program's single-game rebounding record, most recently reached by Jillian Barrett in the 2010-11 season.
- Junior forward Brooke Stoddard continued her strong play off the bench with four points and four rebounds. She made her only field-goal attempt and sank a pair of free throws,
