PURCHASE, N.Y. (October 17, 2017) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team fell in a tight 4-3 matchup with Manhattanville College on Tuesday evening.
Cassidy O'Hearn had two goals,
Katti Thomasian notched two assists and Stevens outshot their hosts 25-12.
- The game went into halftime knotted at one. Ameerah Thomas scored for the Valients at 9:14 to start things off.
- Cassidy O'Hearn answered for the Ducks with a shot through traffic past the Manhattanville goaltender following a pass from Thomasian
- The halftime shot count was 11-9 in favor of Stevens, meaning the second half totals were 14-3 with the Ducks in front.
- The Valients managed to score on all three of their second-half shots, however. Robin Boot scored 52 seconds into the second period, and Emily Antinozzi doubled the Valient lead at 59:31
- Hannah Silvestri countered with her first goal of the season in the 64th minute with an assist from Thomasian
- The Ducks strained for the equalizer over the final seven minutes, but Antinozzi scored with 30 seconds to go to put the Valients back up two.
- O'Hearn netted her second goal of the game at 69:54, but it was too late for a comeback bid
- In addition to leading the shot count, the Ducks dominated penalty corners 15-6
Stevens will return to Empire 8 action on Saturday at Hartwick College at noon.
