Field Hockey Falls to Rowan

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 25, 2017)Brynn Froehlich scored her first collegiate goal, but the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team dropped a 6-1 decision to Rowan University on Wednesday evening.

  • Izy Engel of Stevens had two defensive saves early in the game to help keep the Ducks in the game
  • Rowan lit the lamp twice in a three-minute span in the opening period; Jenni Panzarino scored at 11:41 and Julie Johnson did the same at 14:51
  • Later in the first, Victoria Alvarez was on a breakaway stopped by goalkeeper Carly DeMarco in a great play before she could get a shot off
  • Stevens' Nicole Mottole also made some great plays in the game. The Duck goaltender finished the night with 14 saves.
  • Despite being outshot 20-3 in the first period, Stevens was able to muster some offense: Janet Vill took a long shot that was blocked down in front. The ball came to Cassidy O'Hearn, who slid it across to Froehlich for the freshman's first collegiate goal at 32:49 to cut the Prof lead in half and send the teams to the break with the count 2-1
  • The Profs started the second half with four unanswered goals to seal their win in the second half
  • Stevens took six corners and only surrendered two in the second half.

The Ducks will wrap up their 2017 season on Saturday against Washington & Jefferson College at 11 a.m. The game will also be Senior Day for the six seniors on the Stevens roster.
