PITSFORD, N.Y. (October 8, 2017) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team scored the first four goals of the game and then added a tally with five minutes remaining for good measure in a 5-1 victory over Nazareth College in Empire 8 play on Sunday.
Katti Thomasian scored twice to lead the Stevens attack.
- The Stevens defense held Naz to just four shots in the game, while the Ducks fired 27, including 19 on-goal
- The Ducks also had a huge lead in penalty corners, 11-1
- Victoria Alvarez started the scoring with a goal at 9:49, tipping Cassidy O'Hearn's shot into the cage for the early lead
- Alvarez then assisted Michaela Thompson three minutes later. Alvarez's shot was stopped but the rebound was put in by Thompson to double the Duck lead
- Only 33 seconds after halftime ended, Thomasian scored her first goal of the game
- Less than a minute later she lit the lamp again, this time with an assist from O'Hearn as Stevens bumped the lead up to 4-0
- Jessica Livesy earned the only goal for Naz at 39:12 to stop the bleeding
- In the final five minutes, Ireland Tawney scored off a deflection for her third goal of the season
"It's always great to see the team respond from a loss," said head coach
Meredith Spencer-Blaetz. "Once again, our offense showed their strength in shots and really made it count with 5 goals."
The Ducks will return home on Wednesday to host Stockton University of the NJAC at 7 p.m. in Hoboken.
