Brown’s double-double can't lead Women's Basketball past Elizabethtown

LANCASTER, Pa. (November 18, 2017)  – Senior Megan Brown recorded her 21st career double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds but the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team was unable to dig out of an early deficit and fell to Elizabethtown College 72-63 Saturday in the opening game of the Terry Greene Classic, hosted by Franklin and Marshall College.

Senior Anna Toke added a game-high 18 points for the Ducks, who fell to 0-2.

Led by Abby Beyer, five players reached double figures for the Blue Jays, who evened their record at 1-1.

Turning Point
  • After a pair of Brown free throws gave Stevens a 2-0 lead, Elizabethtown scored the next five points to grab a three-point lead.
  • The Blue Jays opened an eight-point advantage as Stevens missed its first 13 shots. Freshman Maddi Hahn converted a long jumper for the team's first basket after Stevens collected its first four points on free throws.
  • The Ducks would trim as much as an 18-point deficit down to four on two different occasions, but Elizabethtown was able to score on its next possession, reclaiming its three-possession advantage.

Inside the Numbers
  • Elizabethtown shot 45.3 percent from the floor, including 13-of-26 as it built its first-half lead. Stevens shot 35.7 percent for the game, but rebounded from a poor shooting opening 20 minutes to shoot 16-for-32 in the second half.
  • The Blue Jays shot 32 free throws, making 20. The Ducks went 8-for-12 at the line, but all attempts were taken in the first half.
  • Each team scored 12 points off turnovers. The Ducks outscored the Blue Jays 30-24 in the paint.
  • Toke blocked a game-high two shots.
  • Seven of Brown's 13 rebounds came on the offensive glass. The Ducks had a 16-7 edge on the offensive boards.
  • Freshman Sam Winter made her first collegiate start. The Olney, Maryland native sank her first career three-point basket and finished with 11 points.
  • Freshman Annetta Panayides made her collegiate debut, playing seven minutes and connecting on her only field goal attempt.
