NEWARK, N.J. (November 26, 2017) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team outscored Rutgers-Newark 46-42 in the second half but could not overcome a slow start in a 80-73 setback in the Brick City on Sunday night.
Kevin Florio had 19 points on the night to pace the Ducks.
Stevens is now 2-3 on the year. The Scarlet Raiders improved to 2-2.
Rutgers-Newark owned an 11-point lead at halftime after holding Stevens to 31 percent shooting in the first period, including a 2-13 mark from behind the arc.
The Ducks greatly improved their play after the break. Florio sank 4-of-5 three-point attempts in the second half to fuel the Stevens comeback bid, as the Castle Pointers sank a total of eight 3's in the second half.
But the Raiders had four players in double figures – Chase Barneys, Tyler Ofray, Dave Lunsford and Mark Thomas leading the way with 30 – and the Ducks were unable to catch them in the closing minutes.
This was the start of a season-long four-game road trip for the Ducks. They will head to Richmond County on Wednesday for a date with the College of Staten Island at 7 p.m.
