Strong Second Quarter Catapults No. 20 Men’s Lacrosse To Third-Straight Win

HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 1, 2017) – The No. 20 Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team outscored Montclair St. 5-1 in the second quarter Wednesday afternoon in a 12-9 non-conference win in Hoboken.

The win moved Stevens to 3-0, while Montclair St. fell to 0-3. The 3-0 start is the second in as many seasons for the Ducks.

Junior Tommy Dawson led all scorers with four goals in addition to a pair of assists in what was his third-straight game of at least three goals. Senior Connor McKeon scored three times, while senior Tim Leahey added two goals and an assist. Junior Max Bailey tallied two assists in addition to helpers from senior Connor Towne, freshman Kyle Skurchak, and senior Kevin Louie

Defensively Stevens forced 23 Montclair turnovers with four caused by senior Jan Schoonen, and three each by sophomore Daniel Crotty and freshman Alec Caseiro. Sophomore goalie Carson White converted 11 saves in 60 minutes of work.

The Red Hawks took an early lead with a score seven minutes in and re-gained it two minutes later after Leahey's equalizer, before Schoonen converted his first of the season with under six to play in the second to tie the game at two.

Montclair St. again went back in front early in the second, but Stevens responded in a big way with five straight to end the half to take a 7-3 lead. Dawson started the run off a feed from Towne with under 10 remaining, followed by scores from Leahey, sophomore Eric Radbourne, McKeon, and another from Dawson.

McKeon added another early in the second to make it 8-3, but Montclair rallied with three unanswered to slice the lead to two with just over five minutes to go in the third. Dawson ended the run with an unassisted score late in the third, before another in the fourth combined with scores from McKeon and junior John Boutureira made it 12-7.

Montclair pulled out two more with under a minute to play in the fourth to get to within three, but the damage was already done as one final save from White in the closing seconds closed out the win.

Stevens will wrap up its three-game homestand Saturday when it hosts No. 3 Tufts at 1:30 p.m. in Hoboken.
