HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 16, 2017) – Seven different Ducks enjoyed multi-goal games Thursday as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team routed Lycoming 19-4 in Hoboken.
The win moved Stevens to 4-2, while Lycoming fell to 2-3 with the loss.
Sophomore
Dean Peluso led the way offensively for Stevens with four goals and two assists, while senior
Connor McKeon and sophomore
Max Bailey each scored two goals with three assists. Junior
Tommy Dawson scored twice with two assists, and freshman
Max Ranaldi, senior
Tim Leahey, and junior
Bryan Rogers each tallied two goals.
Defensively freshman
Alec Caseiro caused three turnovers and picked up four ground balls, while freshman
Connor Murphy picked up six going 7-for-9 on face-offs.
Stevens outshot Lycoming 60-20, and went a perfect 16-for-16 on clears.
Peluso and McKeon went back-to-back to start the game, before Dawson and Rogers made it 4-0 less than seven minutes in. Pelsuo continued the onslaught one minute later off a feed from freshman
Kyle Skurchak, followed by a two more from freshman
Brendan Monteleone and McKeon to open up a seven-goal first quarter lead.
Leahey and Bailey made it 9-0 with two more early in the second, but Lycoming finally broke through with one two minutes into the second to cut the lead to eight. Another Lycoming goal made it 10-2 Stevens midway through the third, but Bailey's scored with under five to play solidified a nine goal lead at the half.
A 4-0 third quarter ballooned the advantage to 12, before three unanswered to start the fourth capped by Leahey's score made it 18-2.
Lycoming fought back with two straight late in regulation, but Ranaldi's goal in the closing seconds punctuated the blowout win.
Stevens will kick off a three game road swing Saturday at Haverford starting at 2 p.m.
