PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (March 18, 2017) – Six different Ducks registered a goal as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team defeated Haverford College 11-6 Saturday in a game played at Sweeney Field on the campus of Saint Joseph's University.
The victory was the second straight for the Ducks, who improved to 5-2, while Haverford fell to 4-3.
Four different players tallied three points to pace Stevens. Junior
John Boutureira led the offense with three goals and junior
Tommy Dawson and freshman
Brendan Monteleone each added two goals and an assist. Sophomore
Dean Peluso also had a pair of goals and senior
Connor McKeon had a goal and an assist. Sophomore
Eric Radbourne contributed one goal and junior
Christian Werlau and freshman
Bubba Brennan each had an assist. Sophomore
Max Bailey led all players with three assists.
Patrick Girard led Haverford with three goals.
Defensively, sophomore
Daniel Crotty caused five turnovers and combined with senior
Jan Schoonen to pick up 10 ground balls. Junior
Scott Wedgeworth picked up three ground balls while going 8-for-16 on faceoffs.
The Ducks outshot the Fords 31-23 and were 13-for-19 on clear attempts. Sophomore goaltender
Carson White made seven saves in earning the win.
Boutureira's first goal of the game opened the scoring. Haverford evened the score on Girard's first goal of the game. Peluso reclaimed the lead for the Ducks with his first of the game and McKeon extended the Stevens lead to 3-1 at the end of the first quarter.
Dawson and Girard exchanged goals to open the second quarter, but Stevens again scored the final two goals of the frame to open a 6-2 lead at halftime.
Radbourne's goal with the Ducks up a man and a Monteleone goal pushed the run to four straight goals and gave Stevens an 8-2 advantage. Girard's third goal of the game pulled Haverford to within five goals (8-3), but Boutureira netted his third of the game off a Werlau pass to reclaim the momentum for the Ducks.
Issac Krier and Ben Frost scored 1:02 apart at the start of the final quarter to bring the Fords to within 9-6, but Dawson and Monteleone scored to close out the victory.
