David Lehman led all players with 13 kills and senior
Gabe Shankweiler tallied seven kills and four aces as No. 3 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball won its tenth straight game with a 3-1 victory over Kean University Wednesday.
Junior
Thomas Burrell's six blocks led a potent Stevens defense that outblocked the Cougars 13-4 in moving to 21-2 on the season.
Steven Zarzycki and Dylan Flor led Kean with eight kills apiece. The Cougars fell to 14-8.
Volleys and Points
- Lehman's first kill gave Stevens the first point of the match.
- The Ducks took advantage of back-to-back Kean errors to gain a 6-3 advantage.
- Back-to-back kills by Shankweiler and Jordan Patterson opened a 9-4 edge.
- Four straight kills pushed the Stevens lead to nine.
- Four points on three errors and a Jordan Stuart kill gave Stevens a 22-10.
- The teams alternated the final six points of the set before Lehman's sixth kill gave Stevens the first set.
- The second set was a back-and-forth affair in the early going with six ties.
- The Ducks seized control of the set with five straight points with Shankweiler at the serve - two aces, a Burrell kill and a Burrell-Lehman block assist.
- A Dylan DeBoer kill opened a 20-12 lead and back-to-back Kean errors pushed the lead to 22-14.
- A Jacob Milnazik service error closed the second set for Stevens.
- Similar to the previous set, the teams alternated the first ten points of the third set.
- Kean's largest run of the match (eight points) opened an 11-5 lead.
- Strong play from Stevens' outside hitters helped the Ducks force a tie at 16.
- With the teams again tied at 18. Kean reeled off three straight points - two on Jacob Kauffman aces - to take a 21-18 lead.
- Flor closed the third set with back-to-back aces.
- The final set saw Kean score two of the first three points to claim an early edge.
- The Ducks rallied and took control at 13-10 on a DeBoer kill and a block assist from DeBoer and Burrell.
- A four-point run consisting of kills from Lehman and Stuart and two Kean errors gave Stevens an 18-12 advantage.
- Back-to-back block assist from Shankweiler and Stuart pushed the Stevens lead to 23-13.
- Kean fought off six match points before an error closed out the match.
