SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 8, 2017) –The Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team fell 17-12 on the road Wednesday afternoon against Springfield College.
The loss dropped Stevens to 3-2, while Springfield moved to 2-0.
Sophomore
Max Bailey tallied three goals, while senior
Connor McKeon and freshman
Brendan Monteleone each chipped in with two. Senior
Connor Towne tallied a pair of assists, and junior
Tommy Dawson and sophomore
Nicholas Carnovale each picked up six ground balls.
As a team Stevens dominated the shot margin 60-34, including a 33-20 margin in shots on goal.
Springfield opened the first with two goals over the first 10 minutes, but Stevens answered with scores from Bailey and Monteleone to tie the game at two. Springfield answered with two to close out the quarter, before McKeon got into the scoring column three minutes into the second to cut the deficit to one.
The Ducks got back to within one with four minutes to go in the second after goals from junior
Christian Werlau and Bailey answered two more from Springfield, but the Pride netted one more with under two to play to take the two-goal advantage into the break.
Senior
Tim Leahey and Monteleone kept the Ducks within one with goals early in the third, however five unanswered from Springfield put Stevens in a six-goal hole. The Ducks rallied with goals to end the third and start the fourth, but the Pride scored three times over the final 10 minutes of regulation to clinch the win.
Stevens will continue its five-game road stretch March 14 when it travels to Trinity for a 3 p.m. game.
