Michael Mule' hit a solo home run. but the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team spotted No. 15/No. 22 St. John Fisher College a 7-1 lead after four innings and fell to the Cardinals, 9-2 Sunday in an Empire 8 Conference matchup.

Garrett Wells drove in a run for the second straight game with a second-inning sacrifice fly, but Stevens was unable to carry any momentum from Saturday's walk-off victory, and fell to 17-21-1 on the year and an even 9-9 in conference play. Stevens is in a three-way battle with Utica College and Elmira College for the final two E8 playoff berths.Â
Malcolm Kelsey hit a three-run homer for the Cardinals, who improved to 27-7 in 2017 and 14-1 in conference play. The Empire 8's leading offense connected for four home runs on the afternoon.
Prior to the game, Stevens honored the seven student-athlete Class of 2017.
Pinch-hitter Ryan Fahy opened the scoring with a long first-inning home run to center off
Zeph Walters (4-3). The Ducks evened the score one inning later off starter Jim Dawson (6-0).
Carlos Leon led the frame off with a single and promptly stole second.
Harrison Kaye placed a bunt down the third base line that Thomas Pasquale was unable to make a play on for an infield single. Wells lofted a soft fly ball to left field, easily scoring Leon from third.
Fahy sparked the Fisher go-ahead rally in the third with a leadoff walk. Scott Eisenmenger singled. After Walters retired the next two batters, Kelsey hit his second home run in as many days to give the Cardinals a 3-1 lead.
Armed with a three-run cushion, Dawson beared down striking out the side in the third. The thick-framed hurler allowed two runs on eight hits over 7 1-3 innings, striking out five. The Cardinals added three insurance runs in the fourth when Eisenmenger and Allen Murphy connected for back-to-back homers.
Kaye snagged a pair of stolen bases to move into 10th place on the Stevens All-Time list.
Up Next: Stevens will take on Keystone College Tuesday in the final game of the regular season finale. The Ducks will await the remaining games on the conference schedule to learn of their postseason fate.
