FH Scores 5 Second Half Goals in 5-0 W; Alvarez Nets 100th Point

BROCKPORT, N.Y. (September 10, 2017) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team dominated the College at Brockport in a 5-0 matchup on Sunday morning, allowing just one Eagles shot in a 5-0 victory.

Senior Victoria Alvarez netted the 100th (and 101, 102 and 103rd) points of her career with two goals in the game. Cassidy O'Hearn, Regan Littell and Ireland Tawney also scored in the game for the Ducks.

Though the final score suggests a laugher, no one on the Stevens side was laughing when the first half ended scoreless, despite the shot count being 9-1.

O'Hearn finally put the Ducks on the board 28 seconds after the break. 13 minutes later, Katti Thomasian earned the only assist of the day when she played the ball in front and Alvarez deflected it in for points 100 and 101 of her career.

Alvarez scored the next one unassisted off a corner, and Regan tapped the ball in close with one minute to go in the game. Finally, with no time on the clock, Tawney scored on a shot following a corner for the icing on the cake.
  • The Stevens back line of Drew Lustig, Janet Vill, and Anna Cooper allowed just one Brockport shot all morning
  • Nicole Mottole earned the shutout victory for Stevens. Emily Sneddon took over for the final 5:34 in goal
  • The Ducks also dominated the penalty corner count, 20-1
  • The final shot count was 27-1, with the Ducks putting 24 on-goal
  • Sarah Beam made 14 saves for the Eagles
"I was proud of the way we played today, especially in the second half," said head coach Meredith Spencer-Blaetz. "We've been focusing on passing sequences and working as a unit and a lot of that work showed today. We had multiple players registering shots and goals and we're going to take this momentum into the week."

The Ducks will begin a six-game homestand on Wednesday when they host Montclair State University of the NJAC at 7 p.m.
