No. 6 TCNJ Tops Field Hockey

HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 7, 2017) – Sixth-ranked The College of New Jersey defeated the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team 9-2 on Thursday night in Hoboken. Nicole Mottole made 11 saves, and the Stevens goals scorers were Victoria Alvarez and Katti Thomasian.

The Lions leapt out to a 3-0 lead before Thomasian scored on a play following a penalty corner. Haines Duff inserted the ball and earned an assist on the play.

Unphased, the Lions netted the next four goals to make the score 7-1 at halftime.

Despite the score, play was actually tilted toward the TCNJ goal for much of the second half. The Ducks scored again on a corner; this time, Victoria Alvarez re-directed a shot by Cassidy O'Hearn for their third goal on the young season and her 99th career point.

The Stevens defense held the Lions scoreless for the final 22 minutes of the game. Drew Lustig registered a defensive save for the Ducks.

Tori Tiefenthaler and Elizabeth Morrison both scored multiple times for TCNJ.

Stevens will hit the road on Sunday with an early-morning matchup at the College at Brockport at 10 a.m.
