Christina Li scored a career-high 21 points and senior
Megan Brown added 16 as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team overcame an eight-point, third-quarter deficit to defeat Hartwick College 66-58 Saturday evening in Empire 8 Conference action.
Sophomore
Alison Criswell added 13 points and four assists for the Ducks, who held the Hawks off the scoreboard for 3:25 during the game-deciding stretch. With the victory, Stevens improved to 7-7 on the year and 4-2 in Empire 8 play. The Ducks have won two straight matchups over the Hawks. The victory was the 100th career coaching victory for head coach
Megan Haughey.
Kelly Pine recorded a game-high 23 points for Hartwick, who fell to 3-10 on the season and 2-2 in league play.
Turning Point
- Mary Schoenherr converted the second of two free throws, helping Hartwick match its largest of the game at 35-28.
- A Criswell three began a 10-0 stretch that saw the Ducks reclaim a three-point lead.
- The Arlington, Virginia native connected for another triple to pull the Ducks within one.
- Li put Stevens ahead for good, scoring on a fast-break layup after good pressure defense forced a Hartwick turnover.
- Senior Sydney Darby scored after an offensive rebound to push the lead to three and force a Hartwick timeout.
- Stevens went on to maintain its newfound lead over the remainder of the game, with the advantage growing to as much as 10 in the fourth quarter.
- During the crucial stretch, the Ducks forced four Hartwick misses and created four turnovers.
Inside the Numbers
- The Ducks shot nearly 50 percent (14-of-29) from the field in the second half and 44 percent for the game.
- Stevens held a 31-29 edge on the boards, including a 10-8 advantage on the offensive glass.
- The Ducks forced 15 turnovers, leading to 16 points. The team also held an advantage in second-chance points and bench points. Hartwick had a 26-22 edge in points in the paint.
- Brown led all players with five assists and nine rebounds. The senior has led the team in assists in six of the last eight contests.
- The team's nine three-pointers matched a season-high. The Ducks also achieved the feat against Alfred on Jan. 6. Li led the team with five triples.
