Men’s Basketball Back to Winning Ways with Win Over Fisher

HOBOKEN, N.Y. (January 20, 2018)Michael Zignorski and Spencer Cook both hit the 20-point mark as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team subdued Saint John Fisher College 89-67 in Empire 8 action on Saturday afternoon.
 
Stevens moves to 7-1 in the Empire 8 with the victory.
 
There were four ties and seven lead changes early on, but the Cardinals last led at the 3:44 mark of the first. They had been up by as many as five, when they doubled up the Ducks 10-5 early in the game sparking a rare Stevens timeout.
 
The Ducks turned it around with a big day from Zignorski, who led the team with 23 points on an unconscious 9-10 shooting from the floor, including hits on all five of his three-point attempts. He added four assists, three rebounds, a block and a steal.
 
Spencer Cook was also perfect behind the arc (3-3) and from the free-throw line (5-5), as he scored 20.
 
Ryan Coffey grabbed four rebounds, with two assists and a block to go with his six points for an efficient afternoon.
 
The Ducks led for the entire second half and stretched their lead to 25 before pulling back on the reigns in the final minutes.
 
Jake Haight led the Cardinals with 12 points on 6-7 shooting, plus three rebounds and an assist. Sammy Robinson added 13 points. There were only a total of four players in the game in double figures combined.
 
  • The Ducks had a total of 13 people in the scoring column
  • Conor Barron was also perfect from the field (2-2) and had seven points
  • Stevens was 17-19 from the free-throw line
  • The Ducks were also quite accurate behind the arc, shooting at a 57% clip (12-21) from downtown. It was actually slightly better than their overall mark (54%) from the floor
  • The Stevens bench scored 52 points in the game
 
The Ducks will hit the road on Tuesday for an Empire 8 matchup against The Sage Colleges. It will be the Ducks' first trip to Albany as a conference foe.
