St. John Fisher outlasts Women’s Basketball

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 20, 2018)  – Senior Megan Brown produced a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, but the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to St. John Fisher College 63-50 Saturday evening in an Empire 8 Conference game at Canavan Arena.

Freshman Christina Li and sophomore Alison Criswell each had eight points for the Ducks, who fell to 8-9 on the year and 5-3 in conference play.

Erin Hulbert recorded a game-high 28 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Cardinals. The victory extended St. John Fisher's winning streak to four as the Cardinals improved to 11-5 on the year and 6-1 in the E8.

Turning Point
  • After the visitors built as much as a 17-point lead in the third quarter, Lily Taeuber led a gritty Stevens squad back into the game in the fourth.
  • Brown fed the Redding, Connecticut native for a three to pull the Ducks within six.
  • Taeuber stole the ball from Caroline Robertson and found freshman Sam Winter for a long jumper to trim the deficit to four.
  • Li forced a Fisher turnover, but Taeuber's long-range shot to pull Stevens within one possession rimmed out and Nicole Robinson secured the rebound. The Anaheim, California native finished with four steals.
  • Hulbert drained her fifth three of the evening to push the lead back to seven. The junior guard would score 11 of Fisher's next 12 points, including nine from the free throw line, to put the game away.

Inside the Numbers
  • Brown's double-double was the 26th of her career and second in as many games.
  • The Cardinals held a 47-28 edge in rebounding, including a 16-13 margin on the offensive glass. Stevens' 28 boards was the second-lowest total of the season. The margin also contributed to Fisher holding a 26-14 advantage in points in the paint.
  • The Ducks forced 24 turnovers leading to 16 points. St. John Fisher scored 13 points off 15 Stevens miscues.
  • Criswell nabbed a career-high five steals to lead all players.
  • Brown matched St. John Fisher's Sydney Masna with a game-high four assists. Brown has led the team in helpers in seven games this season.
  • St. John Fisher's victory snapped Stevens' three-game winning streak in the all-time series. Stevens maintains a 17-9 edge over Fisher in the all-time series.

From the Court
  • "I thought our second-half offensive intensity and focus on being a tough team was a positive."
  • "We go back to work to improve and get better."
