Maddi Hahn came off the bench to score a career-high 17 points, but the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team was unable to dig out of a first-quarter deficit and fell to The Sage Colleges 82-70 Tuesday evening in an Empire 8 Conference matchup at Kahl Gym.
Senior
Megan Brown added 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds and sophomore
Alison Criswell chipped in with 11 points and a pair a steals for Stevens, who fell to 8-10 on the year and 5-4 in conference play. The Ducks have dropped two straight to the Gators, who are in their first season of competition in the Empire 8.
Hahn topped her previous high of 13, scored against DeSales University on Dec. 6, by shooting 6-of-13 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. The Mickleton, New Jersey native added nine points from behind the arc, while also pulling down a pair of rebounds.
Genevieve Schoff recorded a career-high 36 points and Emily Parslow added 19 for Sage, who improved to 12-4 on the year and 6-1 in the E8.
Turning Point
- A jumper by freshman Sam Winter gave the Ducks an early one-point lead (7-6).
- After consecutive offensive rebounds, Schoff sank a pair of free throws to return the lead to Sage.
- The Gators increased their lead to eight after three straight baskets on three consecutive possessions.
- Schoff converted back-to-back layups followed by an Emily Parslow three, while Sage kept the Ducks off the scoreboard.
- Sage never relinquished the lead, growing it to as many 21 in the fourth quarter before the Ducks rallied.
Inside the Numbers
- Brown's double-double was the 27th of her career and third in as many games. The forward also led the team in assists for the eighth time this season. She also recorded a game-high three blocks.
- Sage held a 48-31 advantage on the glass, including a a 21-11 margin on the offensive end. The rebounding differential led to a 26-6 edge for Sage in second-chance points.
- The Ducks shot 16-for-30 from the floor in the second half, including 6-of-11 from beyond the three-point line.
- Behind Hahn's efforts, Stevens had a 35-5 edge in bench points.
- Stevens won the turnover battle, forcing 16 Sage miscues, while only committing 15. The Ducks were able to turn Sage's 16 turnovers into 14 points.
- Schoff's 18 made free throws set a new Empire 8 Conference record (per E8 record book dated 8/28/17).
- The teams combined for 42 points from the free-throw line on 64 attempts.
