Men’s Hoops Opens E8 Play with 25-point Win Over Elmira

UNION, N.J. (January 3, 2018) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team overcame broken water mains, re-schedulings and an early deficit to defeat Elmira College 89-64 in both schools' Empire 8 action of the season. The game was moved off-campus and was played at Kean University in Union Township.
 
Elmira led for 6:30 of the first half, before a JoJo Mosca 3-pointer set up by a pass from Kevin Florio knotted the game at 14.
 
Later on, Michael Zignorski knocked down both ends of an 'and-1' at 10:25 gave Stevens its first lead of the morning.
 
The Ducks forced 12 first-half turnovers to take a 39-27 lead at halftime.
 
  • Stevens scored 50 points in the second half to win going away.
  • Spencer Cook, Frank Amari, Mosca and Zignorski were all in double figures for the Ducks.
  • For the second-straight game, Stevens boasted 13 different players in the scoring column
  • Zignorski was 7-7 from the free-throw line. Spencer Cook (4-4) and Ryan Coffey (2-2) were also perfect from the charity stripe
  • Alec DiPietrantonio led the team with seven rebounds. Dylan Walsh pulled down six
  • Jesse Adelson led the Soaring Eagles with 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench
  • Spencer Cook led Steven with four assists. Amari and Chris Cosgrove added three each
  • Stevens had 18 assists and six blocks. DiPietrantonio and Thomas Cook swatted two shots each

The Ducks will embark on a two-day Empire 8 road trip at Houghton College and Alfred College this Friday and Saturday, beginning with a matchup against the Highlanders at 6 pm. on Saturday.
