Box Score HOUGHTON, N.Y. (January 5, 2018) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team nearly hit the century mark as the Ducks downed Empire 8 rival Houghton College 99-72 on Friday night.
Spencer Cook scored a team season-high 31 points and
Alec DiPietrantonio was 9-13 from the field with a career-high 22 points.
The matchup was close at the start and did feature three ties and 12 lead changes as the teams traded the advantage over the first 14 minutes. But a layup by Cook at 6:52 of the first finally put the Ducks up for good and sparked a 13-2 run. Stevens led by 10 at the break and then hung 57 points on their hosts in the second half to win going away.
Stevens enjoyed a 22-0 advantage in second-chance points, scored 35 points off of turnovers (and allowed just four) and the Duck bench outscored the Highlanders' 44-10.
- Frank Amari also hit double digits with 10 points and tied with Chris Cosgrove to lead the team with five assists
- DiePietranotonio's 22 points eclipsed his previous best of eight points in a game against Staten Island for the freshman on Nov. 29
- Spencer Cook's 31 points was a new career high for the sophomore as well. He was 12-17 from the field and paced the team with three steals. John Nutaitis added a pair of thefts as well
- Stevens once again featured an exceptionally balanced scoring attack, with 12 different player scoring and another seven Ducks seeing action in the game
- Ryan Coffey led the team with six rebounds
- Dylan Lambert led Houghton with 30 points
"Today was another great team effort. Houghton plays really hard and makes really smart plays which kept us on our toes," said head coach
Bobby Hurley. "Our guys responded well after a slow start, and adjusted to play our pace and our style of basketball."
