HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 13, 2018)  – Sophomore
Skylar Migliaccio recorded a pair of goals to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology Field Hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Nazareth College Saturday in an Empire 8 Conference game at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
Junior
Ireland Tawney tallied her eighth goal of the year and classmate
Michaela Thompson made a key defensive save early in the first half for the Ducks, who won for the sixth time in seven contests.Â
Tawney broke through in the 17th minute, pouncing on a loose ball after Nazareth's Kimber Nourse stopped Migliaccio's scoring attempt. The marker was the Hopkinton New Hampshire native's eighth goal of the season.Â
The one-goal margin would hold until Migliaccio put the game out of reach with a pair of goals 7:30 apart. The Long Valley, New Jersey native is tied with Tawney for the team in goals and points.
Freshman
Emily Franco made seven saves for her second shutout of the season. The West Chester, Pennsylvania lowered her goals against average to 1.23, which ranks the freshman keeper second in the E8.
Prior to the game, Stevens recognized seniors
Regan Littell and
Hannah Silvestri for their contributions to the program. Silvestri produced an assist on Migliaccio's second goal.
Inside the Numbers
- Stevens held the advantage in shots (22-14), which led to a 10-8 edge in shots on goal.
- Littell led all players with a season-high six shots and Migliaccio totaled a game-high four shots on goal.
- Each goalie made seven saves.
- The Ducks held a slim 9-8 margin in penalty corners, although the guests had the advantage at the half.
Unsung Hero
- Thompson rejected Jessica Livesey's shot in the second minute. Livesey followed with a shot that appeared to go in, but the ball struck a foot near the inside post and the play was whistled dead.
From the Sidelines
- "That was a key Empire 8 victory for us today and I'm pleased with the outcome. We had a strong second half and we had some players step up nicely to help secure the win."
