HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 13, 2018) – Junior Sara Hain totaled 23 kills across two matches as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team went 1-1 on the second day of the 2018 Stevens Invitational.
Hain and junior Taleen Mitchell combined for 21 kills to lead the Ducks to a 3-1 win over the Knights of Arcadia University (25-19, 19-25, 25-15, 25-16).
In the closing match, Hain delivered an additional 12 kills as Stevens fell to Stockton University, 3-0 (23-25, 24-26, 15-25). The Ducks are now 20-6 this season.
Arcadia dropped their second match of the day to No. 18 Ithaca College, 3-1. The Knights were led by Shannon Ryan, who combined for 31 kills over the two matches. Arcadia is now 17-8 overall.
Stockton won both of their matches on the second day of the invitational, including a 3-1 win against Haverford College. The Ospreys' Allie Desmond led the team with 32 kills across the two contests. Stockton improved to 23-6.
Volleys and Points (Arcadia)
- The Knights opened the match with a 2-0 lead.
- Stevens answered with a 6-0 run, including two kills from freshman Corinne Dougherty and two aces from junior Shelby Stewart.
- Arcadia earned the next three points after a Ducks attack error and two aces by Mackenzie Hale.
- After a kill by Lauren Enfield, the Ducks went on a 4-0 run, led by two kills from Mitchell to help distance Stevens from the Knights.
- Mitchell set down a set from senior Brianna Perez, followed by an attack error by Arcadia to close out the first set.
- Back-to-back kills from Arcadia opened up the second set of the match.
- With the Ducks up 6-4, the Knights scored four consecutive points to take the lead.
- Mitchell ended the streak with a kill.
- With the score tied 11-11, Arcadia scored the next three points after an attack error by Stevens and two kills from Shannon Ryan to take back the lead.
- The Ducks put themselves ahead of Arcadia after kills delivered by freshman Terence Chan and Perez.
- The Knights earned three points after a strong attack with two kills and an ace to take back the lead they would not give up the rest of the set.
- A kill by Ryan opened the scoring of the third set as the Knights took a 4-0 lead.
- Three straight errors by the Knights brought the Ducks within one.
- Stevens earned four unanswered points, led by two kills from Hain to regain the lead, 12-9.
- The Knights tried to climb back, but a 7-0 run by the Ducks put Stevens too far out of reach.
- The Ducks began the fourth set with a 3-0 lead.
- A kill from Katie Wilson ended the run and put the Knights on the board.
- With Stevens up 12-7, Arcadia scored three straight points to bring the Knights within two.
- Both teams alternated points, before Stevens scored the final four, led by Chan with two kills.

- Despite two kills from Stewart and Dougherty, respectively, the Ospreys were able to grab ahold of the first set.
- Hain opened up the second set with a kill off of a pass from Perez.
- Caity Ulmer answered with a kill to even the score.
- A kill from Perez started a 7-0 run for Stevens, putting them in the lead, 16-12.
- Five consecutive points from the Ospreys evened the score at 19.
- The teams alternated points before a kill by Chan tied up the match at 24.
- Back-to-back kills from Ulmer and Desmond finished off the set for Stockton.
- The third set opened with an attack error by Stevens and a kill from Desmond to give the Ospreys the 2-0 lead.
- Three straight kills delivered by junior Kristen Edmiston, Stewart, and Dougherty gave the Ducks a 4-3 lead.
- A 4-0 run for Stockton helped to distance the Ospreys from Stevens.
- The remainder of the match went point-for-point, before Stockton rallied of four points to complete the match.

- The Ducks held the Knights to a negative hitting percentage in the third set.
- Stevens had a strong net presence, blocking the Knights 12 times.

- Hain led all players with a .750 hitting percentage, with 12 kills on 16 attempts.

- Dougherty had a career-high 10 digs.

- Stevens led in total kills, aces, assists and digs.
