Field Hockey Blanks Sage in Regular Season Finale

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 27, 2018)  – Junior Ireland Tawney recorded a goal and an assist as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team defeated The Sage Colleges 3-0 in an Empire 8 conference matchup Saturday afternoon at the DeBaun Athletic Complex. 

Sophomore Brynn Froehlich and senior Hannah Silvestri each tallied their sixth goal of the season as the Ducks improved to 6-2 in Empire 8 play. 

The Ducks' first goal came after Tawney corralled a rebound and dished it to Froehlich, who tipped the ball into the back of the cage. Three minutes later, Tawney scored after quick passes from sophomore Skylar Migliaccio and freshman Alyssa Appleby. The marker was the Hopkinton, New Hampshire native's 11th goal of the season. 

Silvestri added an insurance goal with 13 seconds of play left after receiving a pass from fellow senior Regan Littell

Abigayle Greier totaled 18 saves for the Gators, who fell to 0-8 in conference action. 

Inside the Numbers
  • Silvestri registered a career-high six shots on goal.
  • The Ducks fired off 39 shots, the second most this season. 
  • Littell leads Stevens with nine assists. 
  • Today's game was the second this season where the Ducks saw no shots.

  • "Today was a solid win to finish up the regular season. We overcame the difficult weather conditions and finished during some key offensive opportunities, giving us confidence going into the postseason." - assistant coach Maura Johnston. Johnston served as the acting head coach for today's game.
