Henry’s heroics send Men’s Soccer over Rutgers-Newark

HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 3, 2018)  – Senior Aaron Henry stopped George Angelides' penalty kick in the 90th minute to preserve a one-goal lead as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team defeated Rutgers-Newark 1-0 Wednesday evening in a non-conference fixture at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.

Senior Haddy Abdelhady recorded the lone goal of the match in the fifth minute for Stevens, who improved to 10-1-1. The Ducks have won three straight. Stevens' nine-match unbeaten streak is the longest for the program since the Ducks reeled off an 11-match unbeaten streak in 2015.

Christian Andrach made eight saves for the Scarlet Raiders, who fell to 7-5-1. Rutgers-Newark has lost two straight.

After frenetic back-and-forth play over the final 10 minutes, Angelides drew a foul against Stephen Johnson after crossing the 18. The referee immediately signaled for a penalty kick for the freshman midfielder with 31 seconds remaining in regulation. Angelides, who rang a ball of the post in the 85th minute, initially hop-stepped to his left before beginning a stutter-step move towards the ball. Angelides struck the ball with his right foot, but didn't get any lift on his shot, and Henry dove to his left and pushed the ball away from danger before being mobbed by his teammates.

Henry made six saves to earn the victory and lowered his Empire 8-leading goals against average to 0.48. The Fayetteville, Arkansas native earned his sixth clean sheet and has allowed just one goal over his last five matches.
