HOBOKEN, N.J. (December 8, 2018) – Sophomore
Christina Li poured in a season-high 19 points, but the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell short to Ithaca College 71-60 in non-conference play Saturday afternoon at Canavan Arena.
Sophomore
Annetta Panayides added season-highs of 10 points and 10 rebounds to record her second career double-double for the Ducks, who fell to 5-4 on the season.
Ithaca was led by Grace Cannon, who registered a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Bombers improved to 5-1 this year.
Cannon opened the scoring with a three-pointer before fouling freshman
Jess Broad on an attempted three. The forward made 2-of-3 free throws en route to her eight point performance, four of them coming from the charity stripe.
After trailing by as many as eight points, the Ducks took the lead after junior
Emily Nunez made a shot from behind the arc. Ithaca's Cassidy O'Malley answered with a fastbreak layup followed by a good jumper to put the Bombers back in the lead. Sophomore
Lily Taeuber made 1-of-2 foul shots at the end of the half to tie the game 33-33.
Turning Point
- Ithaca outscored the Ducks 38-27 in the second half, 23 of their points coming in the fourth quarter.
Inside the Numbers
- Broad led the Ducks with three steals and four assists.
- Annie Giannone tallied a game-high six assists.
- O'Malley blocked a game-high three shots.
- Each team scored 13 second chance points.
- Stevens held the edge in points in the paint (34-22), while Ithaca led in points off turnovers (15-10) and bench points (18-13).
- Freshman Meghan Douglas registered a career-high eight points.
