HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 10, 2018) – All 19 Ducks saw action as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team dispatched Houghton College 88-46 in an Empire 8 matchup on Saturday evening. The program celebrated Senior Day for
Thomas Cook,
Jake Krantz and
Chris Cosgrove before the game.
"It was a great weekend to celebrate our seniors," said head coach
Bobby Hurley. "I'm happy for them as they have put so much hard work in during their time with the program."
The senior trio combined for 10 points as they shared the scoring column with a total of 16 Ducks.
Spencer Cook led the team with 12 points and
Frank Amari added 11.
Stevens never trailed on its way to the 18th victory of the season. The Ducks are now 12-2 in the Empire 8 with two games remaining.
Rebounds were the big stat on Saturday afternoon, with the Ducks more than doubling Houghton 55-27. That helped lead to a 76-53 disparity in shots taken on the same number of possessions. Stevens also had twice as many steals (12-6).
Thomas Cook hit double figures in boards with 10. Other leaders included Krantz and
Spencer Cook with six each.
Conor Barron splashed 3-of-4 threes to add nine points for Stevens.
Saubhagya Balyan and
Alec DiPietrantonio were both 2-for-2 from the floor and combined for 11 points.
Consgrove led the team with three assists, and
Ryan Coffey led the squad with three steals.
It wasn't entirely rosy news for Stevens. On the out-of-town scoreboard, Nazareth College nearly squandered a big lead, but hung on to top St. John Fisher College. With a win over Alfred on Tuesday, the Golden Flyers will clinch the Empire 8 top seed and host the league tournament.
Stevens clinched a spot in the Empire 8 Championship with its win over Alfred last night.
