ELMIRA, N.Y. (February 16, 2018) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team dropped a 97-92 decision to Elmira College on Friday evening.
Spencer Cook and
Ryan Coffey combined for 35 points to lead the Ducks.
Cook finished with 18 and Coffey had 17 to lead Stevens in scoring. Coffey also led the team with eight rebounds and three assists.
Stevens outshot the Soaring Eagles 50-44 percent, but Elmira used 15 hits from downtown to provide the margin of victory. The Ducks also led the rebound count 40-39 and shot better from the line, but Elmira did post 17 offensive rebounds to extend possessions and take 12 more shots in the game.
The back-and-forth game featured three ties and eight lead changes.
Coffey,
Jayson Winick,
Frank Amari, and
Michael Zignorski all tied for the team lead with three assists.
Thomas Cook and
Alec DiPietrantonio swatted three shots each.
Jesse Adelson led the Eagles with 26 points, and hit 5-of-7 shots from behind the arc.
The Ducks' loss means that Nazareth College has clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Empire 8 Tournament and will host the championship next weekend.
Stevens is now locked into the No. 2 seed in the conference.
