Men’s Basketball Clinches Playoff Berth in Win Over Alfred

HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 9, 2018) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team clinched a spot in the 2018 Empire 8 Tournament with a dominant 78-63 win over Alfred University on Friday night. The Ducks led for 39 out of the 40 minutes of game time.

Stevens led by as many as 17 in the first half, but had their lead whittled by the Saxons to six in the second period. At that point, Spencer Cook splashed a 3 while being fouled at the 15:17 mark of the second to ignite the crowd and put the team back out ahead by a more comfortable margin.

Alfred hung around for most of the second half, but Stevens kept the Saxons at arm's length throughout the rest of the game. A Chris Cosgrove 'And-1' from 15 feet out also got the crowd on its feet later in the second half.

Jayson Winick shot 5-9 from the field, made both of his free throws, had three assists, two steals, a block and seven rebounds to fill up the stat sheet for the Ducks. He led the team in boards, assists, blocks and steals.

Spencer Cook led the team with 15 points while hitting 3-for-5 shots from downtown. He tied Winick for the team lead with seven rebounds.

Thomas Cook was also in double figures with 10 points and added six boards.

Frank Amari, Spencer Cook, and Winick all tied for the team with three assists.

Tristin Hook led the Saxons with 18 points.
