  • Location: United States Tennis Association National Campus - Orlando, Fla.
  • Short Story: Seniors Kyle Henry and Danny Polk each earned singles flight victories, however, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team fell to RPI 7-2 on Tuesday in a non-conference match at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
  • The records: Stevens: 1-5; RPI: 5-1 
    
How It Happened
  • After jumping out to an early lead against Ithaca on Monday, it was RPI that grabbed the lead after doubles play, earning 8-4 wins at both first and second doubles.
  • The tandem of freshman Gabriel Sifuentes and senior David Schulz dropped a hard-fought 9-7 decision at No. 3 doubles to close out that portion of the match.
  • In singles, RPI's Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez claimed a victory at No. 1 singles, however Polk rallied to earn a three-set win at No. 2 singles over Andre Imrie. Polk won the third-set super-tiebreaker 10-8 to get Stevens on the board. 
  • The Engineers earned wins at third and fifth singles to earn the match-clinching points. Senior David Schulz dropped a close 10-8 decision in the tiebreaker to fall at third singles.
  • Henry also rallied for a three-set victory - this time at No. 4 singles - for his second singles victory of the trip. Henry won the tiebreaker 10-6 for Stevens' second victory of the afternoon.
  • Sifuentes dropped a 7-5, 6-4 score at sixth singles to close out the match.

  • "RPI was the better team today and pulled out the win. Despite dropping all three doubles points, I'm very proud of how our guys fought in the singles today. We need to get off to a better start next match in the doubles and we are all up for the challenge on Thursday against Kenyon."
