Women's Tennis blanks St. John Fisher

HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 23, 2018) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team earned its second straight victory with a 9-0 win over St. John Fisher College Sunday in an Empire 8 Conference match on the Stevens Tennis Courts. The Ducks concluded the weekend with a perfect 2-0 record after handing the Cardinals their first loss of the season St. John Fisher fell to 5-1 on the season and 3-1 in the E8. Stevens is 4-1.

Junior Isabella Calandra and freshman Agatha Malinowski remained perfect on the year after recording an 8-1 win over Fisher's top tandem in the No. 1 doubles position. Senior Julia Earl and sophomore Makenna Sargis delivered an 8-3 win over Caroline Seaberg and Mikayla Santulli at No. 2 doubles. Senior Sydney Zoretic and freshman Alexis Fuda concluded Stevens' sweep of the double flights with an 8-3 win over Jacqueline Chouinard and Grace Peter.

The Ducks continued their winning ways in the singles competition, posting four straight-set victories en route to a sweep of the six points. Sargis posted the most decisive singles win of the afternoon, topping Amanda Thongsirimonghoun 6-0, 6-0. Fuda followed suit and won both sets 6-0, 6-4 over Zuzanna Pociecha in the sixth position, while Earl and Calandra each also won in straight sets.

Malinowski and sophomore Chelsea Braithwaite earned wins in the first and fourth singles positions, but needed to dig deep in order to do so. After taking the opening set 6-2 over Kalli Saffran, Malinowski dropped her first set of the season to push the match to a winner take all final set. The Kinnelon, New Jersey native showed great composure to earn a 10-8 victory in the third set to improve her singles record to 5-0 on the season.

At No. 4 singles, Braithwaite matched Malinowski's third set score to post a hard-fought three-set win over Santulli to close out the day.
