Taleen Mitchell totaled 23 kills on 49 attempts with just two errors (.429) as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team swept Hartwick College (25-10, 25-17, 25-14) Friday in an Empire 8 Conference match at Lambros Arena.
Freshman
Terence Chan and junior
Kristen Edmiston each added four kills for the Ducks, who hit a season-high .400, in improving to 15-3 on the year and 3-0 in conference play. The victory moved Stevens to a perfect 12-0 in the all-time series.
Maria Sorriento led all players with 11 kills and Jamie Ready handed out a match-high 20 assists for the Hawks, who fell to 6-8 on the year and 1-3 in the Empire 8. Hartwick has dropped its last three matches.
Volleys and Points
- Mitchell's solo block opened the match scoring. The Ducks would record the first point in all three sets.
- Sorriento's first kill of the evening put Hartwick on the board, but Stewart set down a Brianna Perez to spark a 4-0 run that saw Stevens open a 6-1 lead. The senior setter finished with six assists.
- An attack error and a Corinne Dougherty kill opened a 10-point lead and a 5-1 lead closed out the frame.
- Consecutive kills from Hain sparked an 8-0 run to open the second set with a Jillian Roumbanis ace forcing a Hartwick timeout.
- The second frame produced the closest play between the teams, with Hartwick closing to within six points on five different occasions.
- Hair rejected a Dell Potts attach to push the score to 23-15 and back-to-back Hartwick errors closed the set.
- Stevens scored the first six points of the final set, with Mitchell knocking down a Riegner set to open scoring and freshman Elizabeth Chu serving consecutive aces to close the stretch.
- Hartwick scored three straight points to close to within three, but a Stewart kill and and block assist from Stewart and Mitchell slowed the Hartwick offense.
- Mitchell served an ace to open a 13-5 lead and consecutive Hartwick attack errors pushed the Stevens lead to double figures.
- Toria Betelak converted a Ready set to bring the Hawks within nine, before consecutive kills ended the match.
Match Point
- Sophomore Olivia Poplawski knocked down a Julie Greco set to complete the sweep. Poplawski matched a career high with two kills and Greco handed out 11 assists.
Inside the Numbers
- Stevens held a .400-.-094 advantage in hitting percentage.
- The Ducks played a flawless first set - not committing a single error in the stanza.
- Chu led all players with 13 digs and four aces.
- Hartwick did not register a block.
- Stevens held a 7-2 edge in aces.

Unsung Hero
- Freshman Kathleen Riegner recorded her first double-digit assist performance, dishing out 11 assists over two sets. The Monroe, New York native also collected one block.
