Toke and Broad Lead Women's Basketball Past St. John Fisher

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 12, 2019)  – Graduate student Anna Toke and freshman Jess Broad combined for 32 points as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team defeated St. John Fisher 56-46 in Empire 8 action Saturday afternoon. 

Freshman Allie Moss added 11 points and a career-high four steals for the Ducks, who improved to 8-5 this season and 3-2 in conference play. 

The Cardinals were paced by Miranda Lynch with 10 points and Elle Lazore with a team-high seven rebounds. St. John Fisher falls to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in the E8.

Fisher ended the first quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 16-11 lead. The Cardinals maintained their lead for the majority of the second quarter before Moss scored the final three points of the half to put the Ducks up 28-25.

Turning Point
  • The Cardinals clawed their way back throughout the third quarter before Lynch knocked down a three-pointer, giving Fisher a 42-40 edge. 
  • Sophomore Sam Winter tied the game up 20 seconds later with two good free throws. 
  • Moss put Stevens back in the lead once again after stealing the ball and charging down the court for a good layup. The Ducks would never lose their advantage again. 

Inside the Numbers
  • Stevens scored 28 points off of the Cardinals' 30 turnovers. 
  • Toke led Stevens with nine rebounds. 
  • Winter and freshman Meghan Douglas each dished out three assists. 
  • Moss along with sophomores Christina Li, Annetta Panayides and Maddi Hahn each registered one block. 
  • The Ducks scored 22 of their points in the paint. 
  • The Cardinals outrebounded Stevens 40-30.
