Toke's Double-Double Leads Women's Basketball Past Houghton

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 18, 2019)  – Graduate student Anna Toke registered her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team topped Houghton College 65-50 in Empire 8 action Friday evening at Canavan Arena. 

Freshman Jess Broad scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Ducks improved to 10-6 overall and 5-2 in the conference. 

The Highlanders were led by Emily Swanson and Brittany Lenart with 10 points apiece. Houghton falls to 9-6 this season and 2-4 in E8 play. 

Sophomore Sam Winter connected with Toke in the paint for a good layup to open the scoring. The Highlanders answered with a layup by Hannah Haskell. The teams traded points for the entirety of the first quarter, as they headed into the second tied 9-9. 

Turning Point
  • The Ducks held Houghton to just eight points in the second quarter. 
  • Stevens finished the first half on a 14-2 run, giving them a 15 point lead heading into halftime. 

Inside the Numbers
  • Sophomore Maddi Hahn pulled down a career-high eight rebounds. 
  • Hahn and classmate Christina Li both finished a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
  • Toke and sophomore Lily Taeuber each tallied two blocks. 
  • Cori Beck led all players with six assists and five steals. 
  • Each team totaled 13 second-chance points. 
  • Stevens outrebounded the Highlanders 54-36.
  • The Ducks finished 86.7% from the free throw line, hitting 26-of-30.
