HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 19, 2019) – Graduate student Anna Toke recorded a double-double for the second game in a row with 20 points and 16 rebounds as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team posted a 55-41 win over Alfred in Saturday's Empire 8 conference matchup at Canavan Arena.
Along with leading all players in points and rebounds, Toke led the Ducks with five assists, three steals and three blocks. Stevens improved to 11-6 on the year and 6-2 in E8 play.
Lyndsey McCoy led the Saxons with nine points while Sam Pierre-Louis led in the rebounds column with 11. Alfred falls to 5-10 this season and 1-5 in the conference.
Alfred came out strong, scoring seven points in the first two minutes without allowing the Ducks to get on the board. At the seven minute mark, sophomore Sam Winter dished the ball to Toke in the paint for a good layup to give Stevens their first points of the game.
The Saxons maintained the lead for the majority of the first quarter before a 6-0 run by Stevens gave the Ducks a 14-10 lead heading into the second quarter.
Turning Point
- Stevens outscored the Saxons 16-7 in the second quarter, giving the Ducks a comfortable 30-17 lead heading into the half.
Inside the Numbers
- Sophomore Maddi Hahn dished out a career-best four assists, while adding two blocks and two steals.
- Winter and freshman Jess Broad each pulled down seven boards.
- Toke, Hahn and freshman Allie Moss made all of their attempted free throws.
- Stevens scored 38 points in the paint.
- Allison O'Toole led all players with four steals.
- The Saxons knocked down five shots from behind the arc.
- Alfred outscored the Ducks in the third quarter, 17-13.
- Sophomore Christina Li registered Stevens' lone three-pointer of the game.
