NEW YORK, N.Y. (November 17, 2019) – Sophomore Allie Moss produced a career-high 20 points and went 5 for 8 from 3-point-range, but it was not enough as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell 71-63 against Hartwick College Saturday in the opening game of the NYU Tip-Off Classic at Hunter College Sportsplex.
Hartwick got 19 points apiece from Kelly Pine and Giuliana Pritchard and held a 50-33 advantage on the glass as they handed the Ducks their first loss of the season.
Stevens also received double-digit scoring efforts from juniors Christina Li and Annetta Panayides who had 11 and 10 points, respectively. Panayides nearly registered a double-double in the loss, finishing just two rebounds shy of accomplishing the feat for the third time in her career.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 10-0 lead and led wire-to-wire while shooting 46.3 percent from the floor and 43.8 percent from downtown compared to just 30.6 percent from the Ducks. Stevens was able to close the gap to three multiple times, but could not get any closer as they dropped to 1-1 on the young season.
Turning Point
- After trailing by as many as 13 points in the first half, Stevens came out of the break and cut the deficit to three after a 3-pointer from senior Emily Nunez.
- With the score 33-30, Hartwick responded with an 11-2 run, highlighted by five points from Pritchard, to re-extend the lead to 12 and put the contest away in the third quarter.
Inside the Numbers

- Stevens was able to assist on 16 of the 22 total made baskets in the loss.

- Pine was extremely efficient for the Hawks, registering a double-double while also going 7 for 10 from the floor including hitting two of three shots from beyond-the-arc.
- The Hawks were also able to do a ton of damage from the charity stripe, going 16-23 from the line compared to just 8-13 from Stevens.
Unsung Hero
- Sophomore Jess Broad was the most effective player off the bench for the Ducks with seven points, seven rebounds. The 2018-19 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year added a pair of blocks and five steals in her first action of the 2019-20 campaign.
