LANCASTER, Pa. (February 16, 2019) – Sophomore
Jack Bittker totaled 24 kills and seven aces as the No. 2 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team defeated both SUNY Poly and No. 12 Lancaster Bible Saturday evening at the Lancaster Bible Tri-Match.
In the first match of the night, the Ducks swept SUNY Poly (25-14, 25-13, 29-27). Bittker led with 10 kills and junior
Kyle Warnock added nine. Max Szuba and Matthew Russo led the Wildcats with seven kills apiece.
Stevens then defeated Lancaster Bible in four sets (27-29, 25-20, 25-15, 25-23). Junior
David Lehman led the Ducks with a team-high 20 kills while Bittker chipped in 14. The Chargers were led by Nate Miller with a match-high 23 kills.
Volleys and Points (SUNY Poly)
- Back-to-back kills from senior Cooper Diamond and Bittker opened the scoring for the first set.
- Matthew Russo issued a kill followed by an ace from Donovan Suguitan to put the Wildcats on the board.
- Stevens took an 8-6 lead after two kills from freshman Jack Fyda and a kill from Warnock.
- A Ducks' attack error and a kill by Szuba brought SUNY Poly within one point.
- Kills from Warnock, Fyda and freshman Stedman van Arsdale along with a Wildcat attack error gave Stevens an 18-13 lead.
- The Ducks scored seven-straight points, capped off by a block by Diamond and junior Grant Burden followed by a Warnock ace to walk away with the first set.
- Stevens took an early 5-2 lead in the second set after three Bittker kills and two errors by SUNY Poly.
- An attack error by the Ducks allowed the Wildcats to come within two points.
- Warnock and Fyda then issued kills, followed by an ace from van Arsdale to extend their lead.
- Five unanswered points gave Stevens a 22-10 lead.
- A Ducks' service error followed by an ace by Andrew Bertino ended Stevens' run.
- Warnock set down a pass from Burden to end the second set.
- SUNY Poly took a 3-1 lead to start the final set after a kill from Connor Schultz.
- A 4-0 run by the Ducks put them in the lead.
- The Wildcats tied the set at nine after Suguitan kill and a Stevens attack error.
- Stevens took a 14-12 lead after Warnock set down a Burden pass and Suguitan was called for an attack error.
- SUNY Poly came back within one point after a kill by Schultz and a Ducks' attack error.
- Two errors by the Wildcats, a Fyda kill and an ace from freshman Zachary Evans gave the Ducks a 23-19 lead.
- A 6-1 run by SUNY Poly gave them a 25-24 advantage.
- Two errors by the Wildcats put Stevens up by one.
- Suguitan tied the set again after setting down a pass from Piotr Kasza.
- The set was tied again at 27 after a Bittker kill was answered with kill from Russo.
- Freshman Harry de Haas delivered his first collegiate kill to put the Ducks up by one.
Match Point (SUNY Poly)
- An attack error by the Wildcats gave Stevens the final point of the match.
Volleys and Points (No. 12 Lancaster Bible)
- Bittker delivered a kill and an ace to give Stevens the first points of the match.
- A kill from Kyle Horst followed by an attack error by the Ducks tied the set.
- A kill from Diamond, two aces from Bittker and a Chargers attack error put Stevens up 13-8.
- Lancaster Bible came back within one point after three errors by the Ducks and a Horst kill.
- With the set tied at 17, Bittker set down a pass from senior Jacob Patterson, followed by two blocks combined of Lehman, Diamond and Bittker to put Stevens up by three.
- The Chargers tied the set again after Miller delivered a kill and Daniel Kreider and Benjamin Herb blocked a Lehman attempt.
- The teams continued to trade points, but ultimately two errors by Stevens allowed the Chargers to win the first set.
- The Ducks opened the second set with a 9-2 run that consisted of four kills from Lehman, two kills from Byrne and one kill from Diamond.
- After a Chargers' timeout, Kreider came out and set down a pass from Kaleb Ansell to end Stevens' streak.
- Lancaster Bible brought themselves within one point after two blocks and a kill by Herb.
- Byrne set down a pass from Patterson, but another kill from Herb and a block by Kreider and Ansell tied the set at 15.
- Six unanswered points gave Stevens a 21-15 lead.
- The Chargers shortened the lead to three after a kill from Horst and an ace by Miller.
- Back-to-back kills from Bittker and Lehman closed out the second set.
- Two attack errors by Lancaster Bible followed by a kill from Byrne gave Stevens a 3-0 advantage to start the third set of the match.
- The Chargers answered with kills from Miller and Herb, along with a Ducks' attack error to tie it up.
- The teams traded points before Stevens took a 15-11 lead after kills from Bittker and Patterson and a block by Diamond and Bittker.
- The Ducks went on a 10-3 run to win the third set. All three of the Chargers final points were kills by Miller.
- An attack error by the Chargers put Stevens up to start the fourth set.
- Back-to-back kills from Miller and Kreider gave Lancaster Bible the advantage.
- Stevens took a 6-3 lead after kills from Bittker and Byrne.
- Horst issued a kill followed by an attack error by the Ducks, tying the set at 11.
- Bittker set down a pass from Patterson followed by a block by Diamond and Lehman to put Stevens up by two points.
- Horst delivered a kill to bring the Chargers within one point.

- Junior Michael Snajder recorded a career-high eight digs.
- Brian Malsan had a match-high 11 digs.
- Burden led all players with 29 assists.
- The Ducks registered a .588 hitting percentage in the second set.
- Warnock led Stevens with three kills and tallied a career-best five digs.
- Kasza led the Wildcats with 26 assists.
- SUNY Poly was held to a hitting percentage under .100 in the first two sets.

- Patterson dished out a season-high 51 assists.
- The Ducks issued a season-best 56 kills.
- Senior Joshua Hinton totaled a career-high 12 digs.
- The Chargers held the edge in blocks, 9-7.
- Byrne added 12 kills for Stevens.
- Kreider led all players with six blocks.
- Kurt Maysilles registered a match-high 13 digs.
- Stevens was held to a .091 hitting percentage in the first set. The Ducks then outhit Lancaster Bible .323-.167 in the second, .565-.074 in the third and .265-.167 in the final set.
Unsung Hero
- Diamond tallied seven blocks across the two matches to help give Stevens and edge at the net. The Mountain View, California native ended the night with a total of six kills.
