Toke's Double-Double Sends Women's Basketball Past Alfred

ALFRED, N.Y. (February 8, 2019)  – Graduate student Anna Toke recorded her eighth double-double of the season with her 16 point and 13 rebound effort as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team topped Alfred 59-48 Friday evening in Empire 8 Conference action at Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.

Freshman Allie Moss added 10 points, including a perfect 8-for-8 at the charity stripe. The Ducks ended the night with a 90% free throw percentage, only missing two of their 21 attempted shots. Stevens improved to 15-7 overall and 10-3 in the E8. 

The Saxons were paced by Bri Hicks with 13 points and Lyndsey McCoy with 11 points and a game-high four assists. Alfred fell to 6-14 on the year and 2-9 in conference play.

With the game tied 6-6 in the first quarter, the Saxons went on a 7-0 run in attempt to breakaway. The Ducks climbed back after a jumper by freshman Jess Broad and two good shots from Toke to head into the second quarter trailing by one. 

Toke opened the second quarter with a fastbreak layup, followed by a three-pointer from sophomore Sam Winter. Freshman Meghan Douglas was then fouled on a good layup and made the extra point.

Turning Point
  • The Ducks only allowed Alfred three buckets in the second quarter, giving Stevens a seven-point lead heading into the half. 

Inside the Numbers
  • Toke led the Ducks with four steals and three blocks. 
  • Broad and sophomore Annetta Panayides each dished out three assists. 
  • The Alfred bench contributed 20 points. 
  • Each team tallied four second-chance points. 
  • Katlyn Boland led the Saxons with four steals. 
  • Stevens held the edge in points off turnovers (20-12), points in the paint (26-20) and fastbreak points (12-8). 
  • The Saxons knocked down four shots from behind the arc.
