HOUGHTON, N.Y. (February 9, 2019) – Freshman
Jess Broad tallied a game-high 18 points along with six assists and six steals as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team defeated Houghton 63-48 for their third-straight Empire 8 Conference win Saturday afternoon at the Nielson Center.
Sophomore
Maddi Hahn added 14 points and graduate student
Anna Toke chipped in 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds. The Ducks improved to 16-7 this season and 11-3 in conference action.Â
Madison Detwiler led the Highlanders with 17 points and Leslie Moose pulled down a game-high 11 boards. Houghton fell to 11-11 on the year and 4-9 in the E8.Â
Amber Edwards opened the scoring with a three-pointer 14 seconds into the game. Houghton had a 7-4 lead before Stevens scored 13 unanswered points over the span of five and a half minutes. The Highlanders did not score until Moose knocked down a jumper with 1:09 remaining in the first quarter. The Ducks would maintain the lead for the rest of the game.Â
Inside the Numbers
- Junior Emily Nunez knocked down the Ducks only two shots from behind the arc.Â
- Sophomore Christina Li added four assists while Hahn and freshman Allie Moss each registered three.Â
- Stevens shot a season-best 46% from the floor.
- Toke and Hahn each delivered two blocks.Â
- Houghton held the edge in second-chance points, 11-7, while the Ducks led in points off turnovers (13-11), points in the paint (38-22) and fastbreak points (14-0).Â
