HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 15, 2019) – Junior
Kyle Warnock totaled a career-best five aces as the No. 4 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team defeated Bard College in three sets (25-12, 25-9, 25-7) in Friday evening's United Volleyball Conference matchup at Canavan Arena.
Freshmen
Jack Fyda and
Alexei Nikiforov led with six kills apiece as the Ducks improved to 19-2 on the year and 7-1 in UVC action.
The Raptors were led by Jelani Bell-Isaac with five kills and Colin Schroeder with seven digs. Bard fell to 2-13 this season and 0-8 in the conference.
Volleys and Points
- Three errors by Bard gave Stevens a 3-0 lead to start the first set.
- The Raptors scored three-straight after Bell-Isaac issued a kill, Tristan Kozul delivered an ace the Ducks committed an error.
- Stevens took a 9-5 edge after Warnock tallied two aces and a kill while Fyda and junior Andrew Amerman collected a block.
- Two errors by Stevens brought Bard within two points.
- Junior Dylan DeBoer issued back-to-back kills before freshman Zachary Evans set down a pass from classmate Colin Nikc to give Stevens a 16-8 lead.
- After the Ducks committed an error, DeBoer delivered two aces and one kill to bring Stevens four points away from winning the set.
- A service error by Bard gave the Ducks the final point of the opening stanza.
- Stevens began the second set with a 6-2 advantage following two aces and a kill from Warnock.
- Radoslav Skular and Price Ohmer each set down a pass from Kozul to cut their deficit to four.
- The Ducks scored five consecutive points after Nikiforov tallied a kill, junior Andrew Amerman issued an ace and the Raptors committed three errors.
- Ohmer delivered a kill to end Stevens' streak.
- Evans, Nikiforov and Fyda each collected a kill to put the Ducks up 21-7.
- After collecting a block with Amerman, Warnock issued an ace to end the second set.
- Stevens scored the first five points of the final set when freshman Harry de Haas, Evans, Nikiforov and Fyda each tallied a kill while Nikiforov added an ace.
