ASHLAND, Va. (March 18, 2019) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team fell 14-1 against No. 5/No.7 Randolph-Macon College after the Yellow Jackets posted four multi-run innings Monday afternoon in non-conference action at Estes Park.
Junior
A.J. Falconite tallied both a hit and a run for the Ducks, who fell to 3-8 on the year.
Mike Nickels led led Randolph-Macon with three hits, including a homerun, and five RBI. The Yellow Jackets improved to 6-2 this season.
John Reynolds, Jr. (1-0) struck out six batters while senior
Ryan Larsen (0-3) led all Stevens pitchers with three strikeouts.
RMC scored their first run in the third inning when Matthew Blaise singled to bring in Zach Evans. Blaise then scored following a wild pitch. The Yellow Jackets followed with four runs in each of the next three innings, including a grand-slam by Nickels in the bottom of the sixth.
Stevens registered their lone run of the game when Falconite scored on a passed ball.
"We didn't take care of the baseball today. And against a quality program such as Randolph-Macon, that is a recipe for a loss," reflected head baseball coach
Kristaps Aldins. "It was good to see
Tyler Armstrong and
Hunter Counton pitch well out of the bullpen. We'll look to bounce back tomorrow against another top squad in CNU."
Armstrong recorded two strikeouts and no hits in 1.1 innings before Counton came to the mound to close out the game.
